BRIDGEPORT — The Southwest Community Health Center has opened its seventh location in the city.

The 6,500-square-foot walk-in clinic at 1020 Fairfield Ave., which officially opened last week, provides immediate treatment for non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses. It houses six medical exam rooms.

Samuel Diaz III, who oversees the organization’s marketing, said the center found in surveys and focus groups over the past two years that patients were struggling to get to urgent care centers outside Bridgeport.

Diaz said the center’s location next to a bus stop makes it accessible to those without a vehicle. The clinic also offers services on a sliding fee scale, based on income and household size, if patients don’t have health insurance, he said.

“They are going to have an opportunity to speak with a provider and receive quality health care no matter what their socioeconomic status is,” Diaz said.

The center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

Southwest Community Health Center provides medical, dental and behavioral health care services in six other locations in the Bridgeport area. Executives say its clinics get around 200,000 visits annually.

“We have been in Bridgeport for 45 years and this is the first site that we have opened that is dedicated to same-day care. We really, truly are bringing healthcare to our community and making it more accessible than ever,” Mollie Melbourne, chief executive officer of Southwest Community Health Center, said in a statement.
