STAMFORD — A Bridgeport man was in possession of counterfeit money and more than an ounce of crack cocaine during a traffic stop Wednesday night, according to police.

Assistant Police Chief Richard Conklin said officers in the department’s Narcotics and Organized Crime squad were on routine patrol of Stamford’s South End around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday when they saw a car they described as “driving erratically.”

Conklin said police pulled the car over on Tresser Boulevard and asked the driver, whose name was not provided, and the passenger, who police identified as 26-year-old Eric Alcin of Bridgeport, to get out of the car.

While speaking with the two, Conklin said Alcin appeared to reach back into the vehicle against the commands of officers. Conklin said officers briefly struggled with Alcin.

A later search of Alcin revealed two different bags of crack cocaine, one containing 2.1 grams and the other, which was “the size of a baseball,” containing 33 grams, Conklin said.

Conklin said Alcin was also found to be in possession of 40 bills that were found to be counterfeit: 10 counterfeit $100 bills, 10 counterfeit $50 bills and 20 counterfeit $20 bills.

Alcin was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of greater than an ounce of narcotics with intent to sell, interfering with police and 40 counts of first-degree forgery.

Alcin, who has previously been convicted of possession of narcotics and criminal possession of a pistol, was released Thursday morning after posting a $50,000 bond.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at the state Superior Court in Stamford on Jan. 4.
