Michael Scirocco, 55, beloved husband of Li Li Shi of Hamden, CT died peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Yale-New Haven Hospital with his loving family by his side. Michael was born in New Haven, CT on November 19, 1968, a beloved son of Giuseppina Di Monaco Scirocco of Hamden and the late Domenico Scirocco, and had resided in Hamden for most of his life. He graduated from Hamden High School in 1987, and pursued a career in pharmaceut­ical medicine before adventurin­g to China. Michael fell in love with the Chinese culture, people and Chinese medicine, and spent fifteen years there. During his time in China, Michael became an accomplish­ed author of English textbooks, a casted actor in “Modern English”, an educationa­l TV series, and was Chief Editor at the New Oriental English School. While in China, he studied acupunctur­e and received his certificat­ion of completion as a certified acupunctur­ist. Michael loved fishing, the great outdoors, and was an avid reader of all kinds of books. He could be found at his favorite coffee shop enjoying life. Additional­ly, he was a world traveler and in every country he loved studying the people and culture. Michael was truly an accomplish­ed scholar, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Science and his Master’s Degree in Adult Internatio­nal Education.

In addition to his wife Li Li, and his mother, Michael is survived by his treasured son Michele Scirocco, loving sister and brother, Josephine “Pina” (Scott) Countryman and Dominic (Antonietta) Scirocco, his beloved nieces and nephews, Isabella, Domenico, III (godson), and Nicola Scirocco and John, Christian (godson) and Noah Countryman, all of Hamden, loving mother-in-law and father-in-law Yong Shi and Li Sheng Hi, and grandmothe­rin-law Kong Shi of Yichang, Hubei, China.

Michael’s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, December 21st from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. Everyone is invited to go directly to Blessed Sacrament Church (St. Paul VI Parish), 321 Circular Ave., Hamden for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Friday, December 22nd at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
