Michele “Mike” De Luca

-

Michele “Mike” Angelo De Luca, age 70, of Newtown, CT, passed away January 19, 2024 in his home, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born in Bridgeport, CT to the late Pasquale and Marie De Luca Sr.

Mike graduated from the University of New Haven and worked in the field of Information Technology for many years before pursuing other passions and interests in his retirement. He spent many years coaching his children’s youth sports teams, including baseball, basketball, football, and soccer. He was a lover of sports in general, and actively followed the Giants, Mets, Knicks, and UConn men’s and women’s basketball. He was also active in his parish, St. Rose of Lima, and was involved for many years with the St. Rose Youth Group. He was a lover of animals, and was a loving father to many dogs of his own: Duffy, Teela, Jake, his German Shepherd, Sam, and his terrier, Iggy. His most fulfilling vocation was working as an ACO for the animal shelters in both Monroe and Newtown.

Mike is survived by his wife, Donna Alberghini De Luca, his four children Amanda Delaney, Christian De Luca and his wife Victoria, Matthew De Luca and his wife Jessica and Andrew De Luca; four brothers and sisters, Pasquale De Luca Jr. and his wife Charise, Daniel De Luca, Anna Marie Alonza and her husband Brian, and Christina Lillie and her husband Jerry; two grandchildren Liliana De Luca and Dominic De Luca and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Above all, Mike was a fiercely loyal, devoted, proud husband, father, and Papa. He adored his family and supported them through all life’s challenges. He loved spending time with his close friends and family, whether on a motorcycle, at a sporting event, target range, or dinner table - where he was the consummate cook! In all of these aspects of his life, Mike will be greatly missed.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road, Trumbull CT, 06611. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday at 10:30 AM at St. Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT, 06470. Memorial contributions may be made to the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary: “a place where all creatures will know they are safe and people are kind”.
