Anna M. Bashar, age 98, of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina passed away peacefully on March 6, 2024. Ann was born on February 27, 1926, in Taylor, Pennsylvan­ia, the daughter of Paul Mati (Matyi) and Elizabeth Mati Vancisin and resided in Bridgeport, CT for most of her life. She retired to Ocala, FL where she enjoyed the Florida life for 23 years with her husband John. She returned to live in Shelton, CT., but then moved with her son, John ( Jack) to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she again enjoyed the warm weather of the south. Ann was a graduate of Warren Harding High School. She retired from Sikorsky Aircraft and worked at Read’s Department store while raising her family. Ann cherished spending her time cooking, knitting, sewing and making stuffed animals, but especially spending time with her grandchild­ren and great grandchild­ren. She recently celebrated her 98th birthday with her family surroundin­g her for a long weekend and surprise party at Greg Norman’s Restaurant in North Myrtle Beach S.C. Ann was a devoted parishione­r of St. John’s the Baptist CarpathoRu­ssian Orthodox Church in Bridgeport and watched services from home every Sunday. She was predecease­d by her husband, John Bashar, son, Michael Thomas Bashar, brother, Nicholas Mati and sister, Mary Mati. She is survived by her devoted son, Attorney John Peter Bashar of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, his significan­t other Ilona Eisler, her sister, Lillian Danowski of Oxford, CT, a special daughter-inlaw, Janet Conti, of Rhode Island and five grandchild­ren, Christophe­r Bashar ( Julie), Douglas Bashar (Colleen) all of Raleigh, NC, Darcy Epstein ( Justin) of Shelton, CT, Michael Bashar of Rhode Island, and Jonathan Bashar of Seattle, Washington. She has seven loving great-grandchild­ren, Korbin and Declan Bashar; Haven, Isla and Margo Bashar all of Raleigh, NC; and Macy and Peyton Epstein of Shelton, CT and several loving nieces and nephews. Visitation on Wednesday, March 13th from 4-7 p.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford. Panachida will be at 4:30 p.m. A Requiem Funeral Service will be celebrated on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 10 a.m. in The CarpathoRu­ssian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist, 364 Mill Hill Avenue, Bridgeport.
