Margaret E. McHugh, age 85, of Milford, CT passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, April 8, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. “Margie” was the fourth of five children born to Evelyn (Gaughan) and Anthony McHugh on April 29, 1938. Margie was raised in Olyphant, a small Pennsylvan­ia town outside of Scranton. Her childhood was filled with many happy memories of spending time in the outdoors, especially at Lake Wallenpaup­ack in the summers, with her brothers, friends, and large extended family.

She moved to Stratford, CT with her family when she was a young adult and attended the University of Bridgeport where she received a BA in Biology and graduated with honors in 1960. She worked at the West Haven VA for 33 years as a medical lab technologi­st, receiving yearly awards for excellence. In her retirement, Margie enjoyed reading, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. Margie had many devoted friends and happy times in her Southwick community, which became her home in 2010. Margaret was a devoted member of St. James Church in Stratford and of Christ the Redeemer Church in Milford for many years.

Survivors include her five nieces Jeanne and Eileen McHugh and Barbara Ceneri, grandniece­s, Katherine (Grace Phillips) and Emma Silva, grandnephe­w, Nicholas Ceneri and special cousins, Mary Louise and John Miklos and family. She was predecease­d by brothers Joseph, Eugene, Donald, and John McHugh. The family would like to thank the Comfort Caregivers and Connecticu­t Hospice for their exceptiona­l care throughout her illness.

Friends and family may call on Thursday, April 11 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in THE GREGORY F. DOYLE FUNERAL HOME, 291 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 12th at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Ann Church (Saint Raphael Parish), 501 Naugatuck Avenue, Milford.
