Nutmeggers will have a chance to experience a bit of magic in Hartford this month.

“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in Concert” will come to Mortensen Hall at The Bushnell Performing Arts Center on April 20, with shows at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. The Hartford Symphony Orchestra, led by Austrian conductor Ron Spigelman, will perform the film’s score while “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” plays on a big screen in the background. The score was written by Nicholas Hooper, a British composer who also wrote the score for “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” the series’ fifth movie, according to the Harry Potter Film Concert Series website.

The performance is part of the Harry Potter Film Concert series, which hosts similar concerts based on the eight films in the franchise around the world. Conductors team up with local orchestras to create the music. The show at the Bushnell is also part of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra’s HSO POPS! series, featuring music from the realm of pop culture. Earlier this year, the series featured music from the “Final Fantasy” video game series.

The concert won’t be the only live “Harry Potter” event in Connecticut this year. Wilton High School was one of several schools across the country chosen to perform “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.” The play, set several years after the end of the original book series, will be performed in November.
