City man accused of stealing from vehicles

FAIRFIELD — A Bridgeport man accused of stealing items from vehicles in Fairfield early Thursday was apprehended after officers chased him through a McDonald’s restaurant and found him hiding under a car at a nearby Stop & Shop, police said.

When he was found,

Nazareth Sinclair, 21, was also in possession of a firearm, police said. He was charged with thirddegree burglary, fifth-degree larceny, interfering with an officer, criminal possession of a firearm, and carrying a pistol without a permit.

According to police, they received a report around 5:40 a.m. Thursday about car alarms activating in the area of Ann

Street and Nichols Street, and two masked men seen riding bicycles.

A similar complaint was made earlier in the morning of two men attempting to enter vehicles on Penfield Road, police said.

Responding officers did not immediately locate anyone, but they expanded their search and observed two men matching the descriptions of the suspects in the 500 block of Post Road, according to police.

An officer followed as the men entered a McDonald’s, but both men fled out the restaurant’s rear door, police said.

Officers pursued them and located Sinclair hiding under a vehicle parked at a nearby Stop & Shop, trying to conceal a firearm, police said.

He was also found in possession of cash and personal items linking him to the earlier larcenies, police said.

Police said Sinclair is also facing charges from incident that occurred last August. He is accused of stealing credit cards from a vehicle on Kings Highway and using them to make purchases at numerous locations.

In addition, Sinclair was charged with two counts of violation of probation and one count of first-degree failure to appear related to other cases, police said.

The second suspect has not been arrested.
