How to Customize a Chair
Whenever Wendy creates a chair, she goes through a process that is anything but routine, though the basic steps usually remain the same.
What kind of frame? First she picks a frame that speaks to her and uses it for the foundation of the new chair she envisions. Frames for her new antique-inspired collections are crafted in Italy, but she still offers vintage and antique frames in her Etsy shop.
What kind of fabric? Next Wendy chooses a fabric with the best texture, colors and pattern for the chair she imagines.
What color for the frame? Then she decides what color of paint or stain best complements the chair frame and fabric, and she applies it to the frame. Old frames are best painted, she notes, but the antique-look frames made of European beech can be either painted or stained.
Does the chair work? Finally Wendy steps back and evaluates the chair, often photographing it or moving it to a different setting to get another perspective on it, before deciding whether it is just as she wants it or if some changes are necessary.
