TIPS FOR A Colorful Kitchen

-

Have you been wanting to make your kitchen palette more colorful, but aren’t sure where to start? Susan Klimala of The Kitchen Studio gives her advice on how to inject color into your kitchen design for a fun yet timeless feel.

Find inspiration.

Sometimes the best design choices are the result of an unlikely inspiration. Look for something you own that can serve as the starting point for your new kitchen color design. “A painting or antique rug can be a great jumping off point for the palette,” Susan says. This is a good way to give your kitchen a unique feel that is distinctly your own. “It’s all about what you love,” she says.

Tone it down.

Bright and bold colors make a statement but are more easily dated by the passage of time. You can keep your palette colorful while also keeping it timeless by going for toned-down, neutral shades. “Greens, blues and mushroom are good for neutral but colorful colors,” Susan says. “I try to gray everything down to give a more timeless appeal.”

Bring in accents.

One of the most underutilized aspects of color design is the use of accent colors. You can bring in pops of color through dishware, towels, appliances and even plants. Be mindful of the colors you’re selecting for your accents. “Purples, yellows and oranges are better accent colors,” Susan says.
