GET THE LOOK

Create a charming, smaller bath space with a few simple tricks.

-

A powder room, half-bath or smallsized bathroom does not have to be boring. With a few relatively quick and easy additions, it can become a favorite hideaway. Designer Alison Kandler pulls a sweet and simple look together you can emulate.

LIGHT IT UP

A small lamp on the vanity or a striking pendant light or wall sconce can not only light up the room but also add a burst of color and personality—and update the overhead lighting to add cohesiveness.

MIRROR, MIRROR ON THE WALL

Select an interesting mirror in a complementary color, a unique shape or even a thrifted or vintage piece. If you’re not able to change out the mirror, try adding wood framing around the mirror you have and painting it.

CREATIVE COLOR

Who doesn’t love a happy little bouquet of fresh flowers or a bright vase to add interest and color? See how the bold, hot-pink wall lighting brings an unexpected element of pizzazz. Notice how Alison kept the rug and shower curtain white to avoid busyness.

SKIRTS FOR THE WIN

A skirted vanity is a quick way to add cottage charm. If you’re handy with a sewing machine, make your own curtain panel and hang it with a tension rod. If not, just take good measurements of the opening and purchase ready-made café curtains. Have fun changing your fabric when the whim strikes!

FINAL TOUCHES

Adding pretty towels and color-coordinated art makes all the difference and gives the space its final distinct look. Things don’t have to “match”— just play with patterns and textures until it feels right for you.
