Create a fresh, uplifting home environment

The new kitchen’s recipe is a sweet blend of creative remodeling and redecorating. “We enlarged the pass-through over the sink to allow additional light into the space,” Tiffany explains. “We chose inexpensive white cabinets and dressed them up with brass hardware and quartz countertops that look like marble. Where a kitchen table used to be, we created additional storage with a full-height pantry and fridge. The open shelving, delicate brass light over the sink and pop of soft blue on the door to the barbecue combine to infuse a beachy feel into the otherwise neutral space.”

Tiffany also created a playful space in the vacation cottage she calls a bunk room. “For this room, we wanted to create a space that would work for children or adult guests and maximize sleeping numbers,” she says. “We found a bunk bed secondhand and painted it navy blue to make it feel more custom. This room has slightly playful touches, like anchor hooks, to make it fun for kids and adults alike.”

When it came time to post a sign at the entrance to welcome guests, Tiffany looked to the area’s history for the rental property’s name. “I found an old map from the 1800s of the area and saw that Sauble Beach and the surrounding area used to be named Amabel. I thought it was such a lovely name that I incorporated this bit of history into the name of the cottage, and I framed the map and hung it in the kitchen.” And with that, the Amabel Beach House became a lovely landmark for travelers to call their home away from home.

“I’m so proud that this space has become such a beloved spot year-round for our renters,” Tiffany says. “I couldn’t have predicted the success of this little cottage, and it makes me so happy to read our guestbook to learn about all the great memories being created here.”

The bunk bedroom had a closet that jutted out, so Tiffany had it ripped out to allow for a larger vanity in the bathroom, which includes an Ikea vanity and counter and faucet. She painted the bunks blue and found the rattan reading chair—a beachy accent—on the side of a road.
