These Walls Can Talk

-

One of Kara Miller’s signature design aesthetics is making rooms come alive with color, texture and pattern via the use of beautiful wall coverings.

“We used several Phillip Jeffries wall coverings in the dining room, primary bathroom and seafoam laundry room for kids,” she says. “The den is a Nobilis faux bois wall covering intended to look like wood. My favorite sources of great-patterned fabrics are Quadrille and Raoul Textiles.”

Even the primary bathroom was elevated with a wall covering treatment to create a specific effect.

“We used a vinyl grass cloth wall covering from Phillip Jeffries in this space to envelop you in shades of sea glass,” Kara points out.

Kara’s generous use of wall coverings throughout the home proves that no space is too big or too small to benefit from distinct wall coverings that also serve as outstanding wall art.

“The house is a fabulous, bright shade of white. It really has a ton of curb appeal, in large part due to the architecture,” Kara explains. “The style of the home is beautiful. The architectural team has an incredible eye for details, and they are all very well-executed—from the window selection and proportion to the color of the exterior. We used family-friendly outdoor furniture that has happy, brightly colored cushions. I typically stay away from white on outdoor seat cushions to help hide wear and tear. We always use Perennials or Sunbrella fabrics for these pieces.”

Kara’s creative approach to layering unexpected textures and fabrics created several focal points in the dining room.

“The dining room is all about the raffia wall covering and the peach-lacquered sideboard,” she says. “And I selected a beautiful and delicate white eyelet drapery fabric to juxtapose with the raffia.”

From the big-picture architectural and interior design collaboration to the intricate attention to every room detail, the home exudes a calm and airy, yet cozy and warm, ambiance.

“Although the spaces feel very fresh, they also give you a ‘hug’ as you enter,” Kara says. “To me, that’s the best result.”
