$ Colorful Christmas

This Mississippi home is decked out for the holidays in every color of the rainbow.

Lauren chose blue and pink Christmas baubles she found in bulk and filled every bough with as much “glam” as she could. “With this tree, I wanted to go for a more whimsical, ‘winter wonderland’ Christmas,” she says. Behind the tree, her collection of milk glass dazzles in similar pastel colors.

While many people still adore a classic Christmas

in all the festive shades of red, white and green, some are opting for a more nontraditionally hued yuletide.

Designer Lauren Sakalarios (@lalasaks) wants her holiday to feature every color of the rainbow.

“A lot of people tend to go the very traditional route when it comes to Christmas, but I have a colorful home in general, and so I wanted my holiday décor to blend in with the rest of the house,” she explains.

MULTICOLORED MILK GLASS

Specifically, Lauren wanted her Christmas décor to pair with her fantastic, 200-piece collection of milk glass. In her living room—which Lauren fondly calls her “lady lounge”—she tried to pull colors from her milk glass collection and integrate them into her tree.

“I chose a blue tree from King of Christmas and pulled pinks and mint shades from the milk glass when selecting my ornaments.”

Besides her penchant for color, though, Lauren appreciates a touch of shimmer as well. Her milk glass goblets are filled with sparkly Christmas ornaments. Her favorites are the glittery disco balls.

“I just love that shiny, ‘glam’ look. It’s festive, but it might be something you’d see more at New Year’s.”

ALL THAT GLITTERS

Lauren considers her overall style to be “grand-millennial”— meaning it’s an updated nod to a classically feminine look. But Lauren updates her version with glitzy pieces.

“I am more of a ‘glam grand-millennial.’ If it glitters, I’m going to want it!” she laughs.

So, while Lauren shakes her head at traditional Christmas color combinations (for example, she prefers lime green over evergreen), her love of glitter hints at a fantastical winter wonderland from Russian composer Piotr Ilyitch Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker” ballet.

For this tree in the family room, Lauren went a little more traditional with red bows made from ribbon. “But I have also always been drawn to multicolored lights,” she says, “because they’re nostalgic for me. In the 1980s, many of us had multicolored lights, and we grew up with them.”

 ?? ?? “NUTCRACKER” BALLET. To add to the candy-colored milk glass on the open shelves, Lauren chose to place nutcrackers on her coffee table. These figurines are draped in pastel shades of baby pink and blue or silver and gold to highlight her chosen color palette and the elegant, sophisticated pops of gold found in her take on “grand-millennial” style.

With this diminutive vignette, Lauren combines vintage Asian-styled lamps in a pattern called “Tobacco Life,” and used little, Asian-inspired pagodas in her mini faux Christmas tree. Even so, blue and pink baubles that also decorate the tree offer a unifying factor with the rest of the rooms to prevent making this tree feel out of place.

Moreover, candy stripes tend to be fairly straight and neat, but Lauren chose swirling marble patterns that evoke “groovy, mod” vibes. She paired these with ombre-pink and green bottlebrush trees to complete the table’s groovy aesthetic.
