The Ward Eight

- RECIPE BY JESSE ESTES

MAKES ONE DRINK

Named after a voting district in Boston famous for its political corruption, The Ward Eight is a somewhat forgotten classic cocktail that shows how well rye whiskey can pair with orange juice.

50 ml (1 2/3 fl. oz.) Michter’s Straight Rye Whiskey

25 ml (¾ fl. oz.) fresh lemon juice

25 ml (¾ fl. oz.) fresh orange juice

7.5 ml (1½ tsp.) grenadine

10 ml (2 tsp.) simple sugar syrup (or to taste)

Orange wedge and Luxardo maraschino cherry as garnish

Add all the drink ingredients to a cocktail shaker with a scoop of cubed ice and shake hard. Strain into a chilled coupe glass and garnish with an orange wedge and a cherry.

?? ?? The "New York Sour" (left) and "The Ward Eight" (right), are two whiskey-based cocktails. The first combines red wine with a classic whiskey sour. The second features orange juice and rye whiskey.
