16-ounce plastic party cup with clear lid

Hot-glue gun (without glue sticks)

½ cup apple cider vinegar

Unscented dish detergent

Florists wire

STEP 1 Create entrance holes. With the tip of the empty, heated glue gun, burn 40 1⁄8-inch holes around the upper part of the cup, right below the rim. Keep the holes small so only tiny insects can get in, not bees or other larger, beneficial insects.

STEP 4 Add the holder. Twist a loop of wire around the cup just below the holes, then attach another piece of wire on opposing sides of the loop to create a handle.

STEP 3 Pour in the binder. Add a couple drops of unscented dish detergent, which acts as a surfactant to envelop the fly and hold it in the vinegar. Cap the cup with a clear lid.

STEP 2 Make the bait. Pour the ½ cup apple cider vinegar into the cup.
