PROVENANCE: Purchased at an auction in Indiana
WHAT IT IS: Appraiser and Indiana native Helaine Fendelman says you’re lucky she wasn’t at this auction because she would have tried to outbid you on this wonderful 1930s or early 1940s glass Santa! She shares that while there is no way to verify, your eight-inch-tall light-up Santa may have been made by an electric light company such as Noma Electric Corporation, which, prior to 1965, was the largest producer of colored glass Christmas figures and lights. “Often these glass decorations are in poor condition because they are so fragile, but your Santa’s painted surface is in excellent shape,” says Helaine. She does recommend having the old cloth cord replaced, though, as a fire-safety precaution.
WHAT IT’S WORTH: $200
