Country Living (USA)
Tour the New Country Living Kitchen!
Ever wonder where we develop and test our recipes? Step inside our own magical workshop. (It’s chockfull of ideas!)
A test kitchen requires surfaces that are both photo-friendly and hardworking. Engineered white quartz countertops—
“Swanbridge” by Cambria—offer all the beauty of natural stone but none of the “will it stain?” nail-biting.
The caster-clad structure—custommade by Black Mountain Design & Building and topped with “Islington” by Cambria—can be shuttled here, there, and everywhere.
It’s not a farmhouse kitchen without a farm sink, and the Shaws brand has been perfecting its acid- and alkali-resistant fireclay model since 1897. (Each one is still hand-poured!) Paired with the Perrin & Rowe “Edwardian” bridge faucet in polished nickel from House of Rohl, it’s an instant classic.
FIRE-RESISTANT V-GROOVE SIDING
While it’s traditionally used on a home’s exterior, “Artisan V-Groove” siding from the Aspyre collection by James Hardie in seven-inch planks is a smart (and fire-resistant!) alternative to kitchen walls.
Emerald interior paint by Sherwin-Williams hides stains, is washable, and contains antimicrobial agents. Wagner SprayTech paint sprayers make for an extrasmooth finish.
Did you know you can customize BlueStar appliances in more than 1,000 colors? The 48" Platinum Series range (left, in “Brilliant Blue”) and 36" Pro built-in fridge/freezer (below) can each house a fullsize sheet tray. The refrigerator also boasts all-glass shelves and storage bins.
Diamond cabinets in “Icy Avalanche” by MasterBrand come with a host of made-to-order options: pull-out drawers, organizational tools, and a flat kick-out drawer (right behind CL office dog, Gus) that’s perfect for baking sheets.
Hydropel five-inch hickory flooring in “natural” by Bruce offers six dimensions of water protection.
A FAUCET THAT LISTENS!
There are no idle hands when you’re taking on a million tasks.
Our “smart” faucet by Delta requires nothing but the dulcet tones of CL Food Director Charlyne Mattox’s voice to turn on and off, change water pressure, and adjust temperature. Cleaning supplies by Method Home keep the space spotless.
Fixtures by Barn Light Electric Company,
including white “Cooper” sconces (pg. 87), a fluted pendant (pg. 88), and “Getty” dome pendants in navy (which pair perfectly with Thibaut’s “Bijou” wallpaper, shown here) are as pretty as they are practical.
