HOW TO HYGGE

Country Sampler Autumn Decorating SIP 2018 - - Inside -

If you haven’t seen or heard the word “hygge,” you probably will very soon, as the Danish lifestyle trend is quickly moving into the United States. Pronounced “hue-guh,” the term roughly translates to “coziness,” but it’s much more than that. Hygge is described as a feeling, an experience, or a sensation. It’s a way of life that has helped Danes understand the importance of simplicity, time to unwind and a slower pace of life. So how can you hygge? Light a candle with your meals, wrap yourself in cozy blankets while reading a good book, plan a game night in with friends, or relax on a park bench with a cup of coffee. Overall, just be aware of your surroundings and enjoy the moment in a simple, calm way.

Take time for a relaxing bath with an easy-to-store kit of candles, soaps and other soothing essentials gathered in a small basket. DESIGNED AND PHOTOGRAPHED BY KRISTI MERCER OF MAKINGITINTHEMOUNTAINS.COM.
