Barnyard Glow

For clever illumination during the holidays, hang a trio of round metal chick feeders holding battery-powered candles. Starting with new or well-cleaned vintage chick feeders, pre-drill four small, evenly spaced holes through each feeder rim’s underside. Open the holes with larger bits to fit the diameter of heavy ball chain. To hang, start at the top and work down to prevent tangles. Slide four ½" split rings, each holding a chain connector, onto a 1" ring. Add chain to each connector, choosing a length that will accommodate the size of your candles. Draw each chain through the holes in the top feeder’s metal rim, and then add connectors to support the feeder. To add the middle feeder, join another set of split rings with connectors and chains. Repeat to add the bottom feeder, but secure and finish the chain ends with bell connectors. Nest a red glass saucer in the center of each feeder to hold a candle, and accent the top and each feeder with sprigs of greenery and cheery striped ribbon.

MATERIAL HINT Look for galvanized chick feeders that are made to accommodate a glass jar rather than those with a closed top.
