The Beauty of Christmas— IN ALL STYLES

Country Sampler Holiday Homes December 2018 - - Editor’s Note - Susan Wagner

Every year, I look forward to going to our local Holiday House Tour. I love the excitement of stepping through each front door and seeing what awaits me. It’s almost like walking into the Wonka candy factory—amazement at every turn. I love seeing how others envision the holidays and how they express their personalities and likes in their decorating. One home may feature a profusion of glitz and glamour that makes you feel as if you are walking into a Hollywood starlet’s home. Another house may be abundant in fresh greenery, earthy pinecones, and rustic cabin-style Christmas trees. While yet a third might have a retro holiday theme with smiling little elves peeking out of cupboards and old-fashioned toys lining the mantel. I certainly have my favorites, but I always find something interesting and different in each home. And at the end of the walk, my brain is working overtime, envisioning all the ways I can rearrange my Christmas decor to give it a new look. We hope this special issue of Holiday Homes is like a virtual house walk for you. Page through the seven beautifully decorated houses in the Festive Homes section (and if you like one of the looks, try your hand at the DIY projects featured at the end of the story). Go beyond the homes, though, and strive to make this your best Christmas ever. Turn to the Holiday Basics section to discover designer ways to decorate with greenery, trim your tree and set your holiday table. And then take a peek at the Seasonal Joys section to find new recipes for a classic Christmas dinner and fun road trips to extend the season. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from our home to yours!
