Reindeer Plate Shadow Box

Present a favorite holiday plate within a shadow box for a colorful wall decor option. Remove the glass front from a shadow box. Cover the hard-surface back board with scrapbook paper or fabric. To do this, coat the board with matte decoupage medium, adhere the paper or fabric, and then burnish to remove any air bubbles. Let dry. Secure a decorative focal plate to the face of a larger coordinating plate with the appropriate adhesive. Attach an adjustable wire plate hanger to the outer plate. Install a hook or appropriate hardware through the front and back of the board to secure the wire plate hanger with the attached plates. Paint a wooden “J” and “Y” and a single wooden snowflake white. Attach to the center of the top plate with adhesive.

Faux Flake Pillow

While true snowflakes consist of six sides, the crocheted doilies on this red pillow bring to mind those frosty white icons of winter. Embellish a solid-red pillow cover with a variety of delicate crocheted doilies. Handstitch or machine stitch the doilies to the pillow cover in several areas to secure. Alternate doily sizes and shapes, overlapping the edges if you prefer, to add plenty of interest.

DESIGNER TIP If the shadow box’s back board is already covered with fabric that can’t be removed, replace it with a cut-to-size board that will support the weight of the plates.

Try using a fabric adhesive to attach the doilies to the pillow’s surface.
