Celebrate the Unexpected

Country Sampler Holiday Homes December 2018 - - Festive Homes -

Kristen Barrows likes to keep her Christmas decor fresh each year by finding unexpected ways to use new and old favorites. Here are a few tips to help you do the same:

CREATE A FRESH WELCOME FOR VISITORS.

Replace your usual door decor with something different, like Kristen’s old box filled with greens and a pineapple. Or, make over your regular wreath with a new bow or added elements.

SUPPORT LOCAL FOLK ARTISTS.

Frequent nearby Christmas fairs, find online folk artists and get on mailing lists to procure one-of-a- kind holiday folk-art pieces that don’t look like the same holiday decorations everyone sets out.

MARRY DIFFERING DECOR FOR AN UNEXPECTED LOOK.

Put unrelated items together for a look that’s all your own. For example, Kristen thumb-tacked a colorful stocking to an old shovel to lend texture to a stack of decorative boxes.
