An all-wood room need not feel dark and heavy. To com­bat the hefti­ness of the timbers, hang min­i­mal win­dow treat­ments to al­low for lots of sun­light, and aug­ment the nat­u­ral light­ing with an abun­dance of sconces and lamps. Seek out fur­ni­ture with clean lines and slen­der legs to off­set the large wood el­e­ments. In­clude wall-mounted shelv­ing and stands rather than closed cab­i­nets to main­tain the open feel.
