Architectural Spindle Tree
This card tree is easily built using a turned-wood table leg as a trunk and dowel rods for branches. Begin with a 26" table leg, and then cut 12 dowel rods to size: four at 6½" for the top level, four at 7½" for the middle, and four at 8½" for the bottom. Mark placement for the dowels on the table leg, offsetting each row. Drill a ½"-deep hole at each marked spot. For the tree's base, attach a square wooden plaque to the bottom of the upturned leg. Add glue to the end of each dowel rod and insert into the pre-drilled holes. Paint and distress the piece as desired. Attach a brass knob to the top of the tree. Cover the end of each dowel rod with a brass cap nut, securing in place with hot glue. Hang cards on the branches using small ring clips.
