OXIDIZED COPPER

-

Here’s a material that adds a rich, warm patina to your kitchen— aged copper. Purchase copper sheeting from your local hardware or home improvement store, or obtain sheets from a metal supplier, and then age the surface yourself. Or for a shortcut, search Etsy to find companies selling oxidized sheets that are perfect to start your project. Copper will naturally change color over time, so if you don’t want your sheets to continue oxidizing, coat them with a clear lacquer. When attaching the metal sheets as a backsplash, glue them to the wall with a strong construction adhesive for a clean finish. Or, get an industrial look by securing the sheets with nails or screws. Thinner sheets will make it easier to cut and bend around edges.
