CHALK UP A HEADBOARD

-

Bring a salvaged headboard into the kitchen to serve as a chalkboard for grocery lists, messages and more. Diana Petrillo of Adirondack Girl at Heart made this one from an ornate antique headboard. To create your own, tape off the headboard frame and apply two coats of chalkboard paint to the interior, allowing the paint to dry between coats. Remove the tape and prime the chalkboard by rubbing the side of a piece of chalk over the entire board and then erasing it. Use painter’s tape to secure a stencil on the bottom frame of the headboard. Lightly apply chalky-finish paint to the stencil using a stencil brush and a pouncing motion. Remove the stencil and allow the paint to dry. Protect the stenciled area with polyurethane or paste wax.
