I made this beautiful king-size headboard from an old door that I purchased from a flea market.

First, I cut the door down from 94 inches to 75 inches. Then, I stripped off all the old paint and hardware and took off the fancy trim on the back. I then used the pieces of trim from the back on the front so both squares on each side of the center circle would match. After all the trim was in place, I stained the entire door gray.

I decided it was not long enough, so I made a simple frame so I could add some extra boards to the bottom (making sure to leave a gap so the added boards would be flush with headboard). I then attached two 1 x 6 boards to the frame with screws.

I stained the new boards gray to match the rest of the piece and then dry brushed white paint over the entire piece to make it look more rustic. I stained all the trim a darker gray so that it would stand out against the lighter gray.

To dress it up, I added a shelf to the top with some black iron brackets and added a matching black iron star in the middle of the center circle. Finally, I mounted the headboard directly to the wall. I hope you love this headboard project as much as I do.
