AUTUMN Abundance

-

Ellie Edgeworth doesn’t formally plan her displays or overthink her interior decoration. She simply trusts her instincts when it comes to creating a warm and inviting home. Fall is a perfect time to pair unfussy, rustic accessories with natural elements to deck your own abode in autumn splendor. Ellie’s savvy ideas are adaptable for any home and decorating style.

Reach for a wreath.

Wreaths made of twigs or greenery provide a classic touch and set a welcoming stage for family and friends. Ellie prefers to use items from nature, such as bittersweet, to craft her own. “I go out and cut it to make my wreaths,” she explains. “It’s free and you can be creative and do anything you want with it.”

Forage for flora.

Fall foliage, including flowers, leaves, pinecones and tree branches, brings the beauty of the outdoors inside. “I have two canning jars, which I fixed to an old small board that I found on the beach, and they are always filled with seasonal flowers,” Ellie says. “It is the simplest things that make the best statements.”

Get glowing.

Small lamps and candles (Ellie prefers the batterypowered variety) usher ambience into any space. Place one near a window, on a small end table, atop a fireplace or within a corner cabinet. Move them about frequently, seeing how the light enhances each room.

Go bowling.

Fill trenchers, firkins, crocks and wooden bowls with a bounty of pumpkins, squash and other gourds. Ellie embellishes her various gourd groupings with bittersweet, walnuts, dried oranges and corn.
