I love everything primitive, so I am making an affordable version in miniature. When I am finished, I will own the primitive country home of my dreams.
I am 71, and only started my adventure into making miniatures a few years ago, when I decided to make my granddaughters a dollhouse. Now, I am making miniatures every day. The best part is that I can combine my love of primitives with this enjoyable art form. Right now, I am working on a primitive bedroom. When it is finished, this dollhouse will have eight rooms, plus a hall.
This photo shows part of the living room, and I have made almost everything shown from scratch. I have taught myself how to use clay, make furniture, etc. On the fireplace, you’ll see a handmade bowl that I made from clay to resemble wood. Next to that is a Colonial courting candle, which I made from a spring, small plate and clay. I made the wall candle from paper, in the image of my real one. I covered the chair with vintage material. The little white dress was made from a much-larger antique one that was falling apart. The floor is made using pieces from a bamboo floor mat, laid individually and stained. I also added wall stenciling and real dried flowers hanging from the ceiling. The keyhole step stool started out as a fan and cocktail sticks.
