Timeless Tradition

Traditional May baskets were filled with flowers, candies or other goodies and hung on the doors of friends, neighbors or loved ones throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Revive the tender tradition with a gift of pansy blooms. Use string or wire to make a hanger for a small canning jar. Fill the jar with water and a mix of freshly cut pansies with long stems. If you don’t have suitable canning jars, seek out old bottles and bud vases at a thrift store or recycle glass food or drink containers. Add a sentimental tag to complete each simple-but-special gift.
