Pansy Growing Tips

Pansies grow well in sunny or partially sunny areas in well-drained soil. For best results, water plants three times a week and keep soil from drying out.

Pansies make ideal container plantings either alone or mixed with other flowers. Plant in multiple containers to decorate deck rails and stairs.

Pick blooms daily to stimulate continual flowering and plant longevity.

Pansy flowers are edible, so use only natural and organic fertilizers if you plan to eat the blooms. Add them to salads or use them to garnish sweets and refreshing drinks.

Although they are perennial, pansies are normally grown as biennials or annuals because plants eventually get leggy and look unkempt. To revive a leggy plant, cut it back to the base stem and water for a second bloom in the fall.
