SNOWY SPLENDOR

-

Dressed in icy white, the framed image of a cabin in the woods (right) highlights the best of the season’s charms. Bring the magic of snow indoors with delightfully oversize snowflakes constructed from items sourced from flea markets. This snowflake decoration was made from six 8" spindles that once adorned an old gazebo.

1.

Place two spindles end to end and attach them together with a bracket. (The one used here is a deadbolt strike plate.)

2.

Cut the four remaining spindles at a 60-degree angle with a miter saw to form the snowflake shape.

3.

Predrill a hole in the long side of each angled end of the four cut spindles. Secure two cut spindles on each side of the main spindles with 11/2" wood screws.

4.

For a frosty look, paint the entire snowflake white and allow it to dry. (The spindles can be painted before or after assembly.) Lightly distress the dry paint with sandpaper.

5.

Drill a hole in the top of the snowflake and add a short length of string to create a loop from which to hang the decoration.

6.

If desired, brush the entire snowflake lightly with decoupage medium and sprinkle with clear glitter for some winter shimmer!
