ALL IN A ROW

-

An eye-catching centerpiece makes a stunning addition to any spring tablescape. René nestled a porcelain rabbit she bought from a flea market along with natural grasses resembling hay in this divided box to bequeath some fun Easter basket charm. The distinctive box was another barn-sale find at $1, and every compartment perfectly fits a single egg. Not wanting to miss an opportunity to complement the container, René included five eggs showcasing a color gradient. The result is a row of green eggs varying in color from the lightest mint green to the darkest emerald hue.

To get similar colors on your own Easter eggs, add 20 drops of green food coloring and 1 tablespoon of vinegar to a cup of water. Dye one egg at a time, checking on the egg periodically to see its color, and remove the egg when it has reached the desired shade. Once one egg is dyed, add the next egg to the cup of water. René wanted to show a gradual progression of color in her eggs, so she removed her first egg after a minute or two of dyeing time to keep its color light in tone. She wanted her final egg to be the darkest and left it in the longest at two hours. Of course, depending on how dark you want your eggs, you can leave each in the water for a longer period of time.
