GLOWING Beauty

-

Whether placed near the bath or on the counter, these lavender candles are as lovely to look at as they are to light. They’re formed using vintage gelatin molds and tart pans, so they can be enjoyed inside the fluted metal containers or as stand-alone wax candles reflecting each mold’s scalloped shape.

1. Decide what type of wax you’d like to use and how much you’ll need for your molds. René purchased wax shavings and measured out double the amount of wax for each of her molds. Place your wax in the top of a double boiler.

2. Use hot glue to secure the end of a wick to the center bottom of each mold.

3. Heat water in the bottom of the double boiler to melt the wax.

4. Following the directions on your wax package, add the appropriate amount of lavender essential oil at the required temperature.

5. When the wax reaches the correct temperature for pouring (based on your package directions), transfer it from the double boiler to a glass measuring cup.

6. Carefully pour the melted wax into the molds. When the wax begins to cool on top and change color, sprinkle on a few lavender buds. Try one or two to make sure the buds stick without sinking. Cool a little longer if necessary.

7. Allow the candles to harden completely and then trim the wicks.
