DON’T WASTE A SPACE

In a small kitchen, every square inch matters. These easy tricks will help you convert a kitchen corner into a usable space with style.

1. Create depth. To help a corner appear less awkward and more seamless, foster depth and continuity with cosmetic finishes. Here, a tin backsplash tightens the design while supporting the primitive aesthetic.

2. Pack it in. Small kitchens benefit from neatly arranged, compact corners with versatility so don’t be afraid to pack it with functional pieces, such as mounted corner cabinets and hanging cupboards to store essentials. Use peg racks to display baskets and bonnets for decorative effect.

3. Pair like elements. Whenever feasible, match textures to create a uniform feel. Here, punched-tin door panels on the black painted hanging cupboard mirror the tin backsplash and metal sink fixtures, whereas the cupboard itself also complements the dark countertop.

4. Conceal the new. Use a large linen cloth or a burlap feed sack to hide a modern, dark-colored appliance so that the overall kitchen design stays as close to authentic as possible.
