All Treats, No Tricks

Country Sampler fan Renee Fry Campbell, who lives in Madison Heights, Virginia, says Halloween is her favorite holiday. (Renee’s home was featured in the March 2019 issue of Country Sampler.) “Halloween isn’t just a day at our place, it’s the whole 31 days of October,” she notes. She recently shared a photo of Halloween noisemakers from the 1950s and 1960s. We’d love to see how you give your decor the little finishing touch that brings a smile— share photos at www.facebook.com/ CountrySamplerMagazine.

Style Show-and-Tell

Fairfax, Virginia, residents Sherry and Frank Holinaty show how they use straw bales to display unique autumn produce in their outside decor. “We love the color, texture and shapes of the pumpkins, squashes and gourds,” Sherry says. “I love picking them out. We chose to have so many because we get excited and can’t help but enjoy the fall harvest season. We also enjoy sharing our passion with our neighbors, whose encouragement keeps us setting up yard displays each year. When my husband and I were in the military, we often decorated and opened our home during the fall and winter holiday seasons for charity tours. We love what we do, and each year it is a new adventure to see what the display will look like.” She enjoys Country Sampler’s celebration of all things home. “I love your magazine. I love the creativity everyone shows in their decorating, and I love knowing I am not the only house hugger out there.”

Kimberly Porter of Mansfield, Ohio, shares that she and her husband,

Ron, enjoy shopping together and referencing their collection of Country Sampler issues to find ideas to revamp. “My husband and I love going to antiques stores and styling our outdoors to welcome each season. You never know what you’ll find,” she notes. “Scarecrows are one of my favorite things to decorate with because you can change him entirely each year.”

Rita Taylor from Mays Landing, New Jersey, loves the custom light fixture over her dining room table. “I just wanted to share a picture of my unique farmhouse light that my friend made for me from scratch,” she says, explaining they designed the 4-foot fixture together.

“The egg baskets are vintage, and he shopped three different antiques sites, finding one basket in each location. It’s hard to believe he found matches.” As for the antique pulley, she continues, “He had to run an extra beam in the attic for support. It’s extremely heavy.” Rita strives to make her home comfortable and inviting: “I am 75 years young and entertain nonstop.”
