Nobody says two-piece cupboards, hutches or cabinets must stay together forever. Hang a top piece on the wall, perhaps with a table underneath. Use a bottom for a sideboard or linen chest. Or, for a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, stack an unrelated top and bottom. “Once they are painted and distressed, you never know,” says Rogna, who hung a plate rack above the bottom of a Hoosier cabinet in her sunroom.
“I just like things very homey, and I like old stuff around me.”
