CHANNEL the Past
“I want my home to feel warm and inviting, not sterile and cold. I love incorporating my antiques and flea-market finds with brand-new items,” Deb says of the 1980s house she reimagined. Her remodeled kitchen demonstrates how to strike a balance between old-time charm and modern-day convenience. Deb offers these five tips to add vintage style to your kitchen when updating:
1. Opt for traditional punched-tin pendant lights in place of glitzy fixtures.
2. Install glass-front upper cabinets to show off vintage glasses and dinnerware.
3. Edge the tops of cupboards in crown molding to form an attractive base for cabinet-top collections.
4. Select counters with subtle gray hues that mimic stone and coordinate with rich wood tones. Countertops in brighter colors or patterns can draw attention away from favorite treasures.
5. Dress a small seating area with classic touches such as wood shelf brackets and ladder-back chairs with rush seats.
