Stretch the Season

With just a few swaps of accessories and slight repositioning of decorative elements, you can fashion a front porch scene that spreads cheer throughout the winter months.

Although the landscape around your home might appear stark this time of year, that doesn’t mean your front porch should suffer from the winter “blahs” once you put away all the festive Christmas trimmings. Take a seasonal styling cue from Denise Amanda of My Home of All Seasons, who cleverly turned the unfinished back side of a vertical holiday sign, as well as other everyday accessories, into decor that can remain on display until spring comes calling.

Glitter and Glide

To vary the look of her grouping, Denise positioned the milk can on the opposite side of the porch and removed the holly and other Christmas-related items. In their place, she added frosted picks, greenery and a fuzzy pair of decorative ice skates that represents a fun wintertime activity. As a finishing touch, the buffalo-check bow visually connects the milk can to the Winter sign.

Sign of the Times

The standout piece in Denise’s Christmas arrangement is a cheery red Believe sign, but rather than move it into storage after the holidays, she smartly made it reversible with the application of cream-colored paint, black letters, buffalo-check mesh, glittery snowflakes, mittens and a hat. “The black letters were a steal I found at a clearance sale a few years ago. I bought them for a song to put in my craft bin for a someday project,” Denise explains. “I’m happy with the end result, and the sign can stay for another season!”

Soft Surroundings

No matter the time of year, an inviting front entrance isn’t complete without a wreath. “I made this wreath for the winter season a few years ago, and I still love it today! Such a quick and easy project that I tried from a tutorial I found scrolling through Pinterest on The Navage Patch blog,” Denise shares. The mitten cutouts complement the real versions Denise affixed to her Winter sign.

Snow Glow

In keeping with her change in color scheme, Denise chose a black lantern to pair with the Winter sign. The soft glow of a battery-operated candle behind a petite feather tree that’s nestled into faux snow helps light the way in the evening. A snowman sign and a large bow offer a dose of whimsy to the scene.

Meet and Greet

Denise gave her lamppost an instant update by swapping out the bow and hanging a sign that repeats the skating theme featured on the milk can. The lighted garland is a holdover accent from Christmas that works well in the winter setting.

The White Stuff

Even though the ground surrounding her home lacks a layer of snow, Denise improvised a frosty vibe with the next best thing: a metal bucket filled with faux snowballs. Plus, the bucket also ties in with the design on her Welcome sign to pull the whole look together.
