ENGLISH ADVERTISING BOTTLES AND LOVING CUP

-

Leaf through newly purchased antique books. There may be interesting paper ephemera tucked away in the pages.

TRASH TO TREASURE: “In the late 1800s to 1900s, household products were packaged in these amazing ironstone and stoneware pieces,”

Amy says. “People have been digging these up out of the English dumps for years, and due to the current popularity and diminishing supply, prices have skyrocketed.”

The examples in this vignette were among

Amy’s first bottles of the type in her collection.

Loving cups, or trophies, are so named for their double handles.

TEAM PLAYERS: The painting and leather-bound books contribute to the display in texture and color.

INSIGHTS: “This very simple vignette was created using a few of my vintage decor staples and a favorite styling technique: layering. When creating a vignette, I always like to start out with a large piece in the background. The blues in the painting were my pop of color against the other neutral browns.

“I have a lot of antique books that I use for styling purposes throughout my house all year long. I don’t like to pay more than $5 for a book unless I just can’t turn it down. They make great risers.

“English loving cups are another item that have gotten so expensive. They’re fun to stack things into, especially the larger ones, or sometimes I even lay them down just to add in a different layering item.

“I simply added in some pinecones to bring in some additional textures and a natural element.”
