Positive Outlook
“I like to decorate with objects that were made hardworking hands by rather than on an assembly line.”
Fashioning an eating area with a view is simple. Begin by centering a chandelier near the window. Next, find a dining set that matches the window’s width, as Sue did in the kitchen with a gateleg table and Windsor chairs. Then mirror the window’s geometry with a rectangular area rug.
When Sue can’t find country antiques in Louisiana, she buys wellcrafted reproductions. The master bedroom features a new fourposter bed, nightstands and dresser. For a period look, she simply accessorizes with pieces that feature a country aesthetic, such as lamps with tin shades, stoneware, candle sconces and, of course, a stately portrait. The black cupboard on top of the bureau conceals a television.
