BUILDING BLOCK

Feature your address on a planter block to make a functional and decorative signpost to station on your front steps. Prepare and attach the lattice molding as instructed on the opposite page. René chose not to paint this concrete block so that she would have two different looks, plus the gray tone coordinated with the colors of the small tiles. To create a background for the house numbers, cut off the rounded ends of several large craft sticks with scissors, and fit the sticks onto the front of the block to test positioning. Stagger the seams to resemble the layout of shiplap. Paint and distress the sticks. When dry, dot the backs with construction adhesive and secure to the block. Attach house numbers in the center. Glue small glass mosaic tiles to the front corners for extra color and pattern.
