A Blissful Bath

The artfully designed master bathroom is awash in traditional country style with all the amenities for modern living. To achieve the look, Amber teamed new purchases with thrift-store finds, and she paired silvery accents with homespun textiles. Follow al

Wrap the Walls. Wainscoting on large expanses can be pricey, but the cost for a bath was within the Raineys’ budget. Amber painted both the paneling and a vintage medicine cabinet a dark denim color to contrast with the white walls and ceiling.

Think on a Tub. The choice between a vintage claw-foot bathtub or a reproduction is up to you. Amber replaced the cast-iron original with a gleaming new model that’s lighter in weight. She also laid water-resistant vinyl plank flooring and topped it with a worn Asian-style rug.

Show and Store. Choose accent pieces for practicality as well as decoration. Recruit a jelly cabinet or bureau to store linens and toiletries. Stash cotton swabs and puffs in canning jars. Hang a small shelf near the tub to hold a soap dish, and paint it the same color as the wall.

Vamp Up a Vanity. A custom vanity built from wood salvaged after the fire is topped with a sleek contemporary vessel sink to evoke the porcelain washbasins of times gone by. Wall-mounted taps are trickier to install than deck mounts, but cleanups are breezier.
