Egg-cellent Color Combo

-

Sarah’s kitchen, awash in natural light, is accented with cool colors that pop against warmer tones. “I love the blue, green, white and brown eggs that our chickens lay,” she notes. “I often joke that I designed our kitchen color palette after the eggs.” Introducing a vibrant splash of color into your neutral decor is as easy as one, two, three—no chickens required.

Start with a few larger-scale items in your desired hues. A pendant lamp, window treatments, bar stools—even appliances—are perfect for establishing an accent palette.

Add in small objects that feature your accent colors. Knives, salt and pepper shakers, tins and kitchen linens are easy to color match and serve more than decorative purposes.

Introduce coordinating vintage pieces, and give them jobs to do. Employ an old drawer or box as a countertop caddy, or use a painted tobacco basket as a serving tray. “The green vintage sewing box at the end of the bar is a favorite flea-market find,” Sarah says. “I use it as a potato and onion bin.”
