Completed in 2017, the Smiths’ custom- built 2,200-square- foot home in Lindale, Texas, has all the characteristics of a traditional farmhouse cottage. “We like the size and the simplicity of the house plan,” Tina remarks. The veranda- style porch adds to the charm of the exterior.

Tina’s love of simplified country style is reflected in every nook and cranny of the cottage-inspired home she shares with her husband, Milton. She describes red and white as her signature colors, a palette the barn quilt adorning their front porch hints to guests as they arrive.

“The playhouse is my most favorite possession ever,” Tina declares. “My daddy built it for our daughter, Mika, for her seventh birthday. She is now 39. We restored it for our granddaughter Marlee Pearl, and we have furnished it with little antique furniture, dishes and toys. I think my daddy would be very proud that his great-granddaughter loves the little playhouse he built 32 years ago.” ★
