Fall Frills

- PHOTOGRAPHED AND DESIGNED BY MEEGAN OF MEEGANMAKES.COM

Gather up odds and ends such as glass doorknobs, drawer pulls and pearl floral pins to secure delicate doilies to artificial pumpkins for a vintage-inspired look. DIY enthusiast Meegan of What Meegan Makes created these simple tabletop decorations in a snap with heirloom doilies, a drawer pull purchased at a crafts store and long pins from her sewing stash. “Being so lucky, I have a wide selection of vintage doilies. Most were made by my grandma and her mom, my great-grandmother. I have used them all around my home for years. I love the delicate stitches and imagine the stories the doilies could tell,” she shares.

To recreate Meegan’s designs, remove the stems from two pumpkins, leaving a hole in one that is large enough to accommodate the end of a drawer pull or doorknob. Paint the pumpkins to match your decor, if desired, and let dry. Lay a doily atop each pumpkin and adhere with hot glue, although this isn’t necessary if you want to preserve the textiles. Insert the drawer pull or doorknob a few inches into the first pumpkin to keep it in place. For the second pumpkin, simply push in several floral pins where the stem was removed to complete the nostalgic vibe.
