Convert a small closet into a display niche that offers a seat for snowmen or the occasional young grandchild. Remove the door and hanging rod, build a top shelf, trim the opening with salvaged spindles, and settle a bench inside. Janelle arranged birdhouses and snowman figures for a sweet showcase that gives her office a dose of architectural interest.

A custom-built wall unit in Janelle’s office features some open spaces for decorating, and she treats the main cubby to a winter vignette. A shutter in its recesses is edged in tiny lights to act as a textural backdrop for birdhouses and other seasonal accents. ★
