Patina and Gloss

- PHOTOGRAPHED AND DESIGNED BY LOUISE TOMKINSON OF INSTAGRAM.COM/BOSTONROADJUNK

An aged wood shelf corrals a scene of salt-glazed stoneware and butter molds carefully composed by Louise Tomkinson of Boston Road Junk. Incorporating objects that feature only one or two colors and employing a rustic box as a niche for compact treasures helps prized possessions take center stage. “I’ve always been drawn to vintage kitchen items, whether they’re salt-glazed, yellowware, old crockery or enamelware pieces. I love pairing them with any worn wooden pieces, whether they’re butter molds, butter paddles, rolling pins, wood crates, boxes or tool carriers,” Louise states. “My idea of a great weekend is shopping estate sales, outdoor markets or 100-mile-long yard sales. I unfortunately do way too much of this type of shopping most weekends. I’ve been buying, selling and collecting for over 40 years, so it’s a way of life for me, and decorating is my true passion.” ★
