RING FOR SPRING

-

Recycle cans into a resourceful wreath in a few easy steps.

Materials and Tools

• 10 matching cans

• Can opener

• Wire wreath form, approximately

16" diameter

• Baking Soda Paint Mixture • Chalky-finish paint

• Wide ribbon with decorative pattern • Narrow ribbon

• Wide wire-edged ribbon

• Glue gun and glue sticks • Paintbrushes

• Artificial floral stems

• Oblong piece of cardboard (optional) • Jute twine or wire

Instructions

1. Use a can opener to remove the top and bottom from each can. Wash and dry. Carolynn chose vegetable cans to fit her 16" wreath form.

2. Test the arrangement of the cans on the wreath form. Overlap them along the inside curve of the circle in a neat pattern.

3. Remove the cans from the form and decorate. First, coat the outsides of the cans with Baking Soda Paint Mixture and let dry. Brush on chalky-finish paint in a color that coordinates with the ribbons and let dry. 4. Trim the cans with wide and narrow ribbons, hot gluing to secure.

5. Reassemble the cans on the form and hot glue in place. Let set.

6. Glue sprays of greenery at the top of the wreath, with the florals following the top curve. Fashion a full bow with wide wireedged ribbon and adhere to the top center of the wreath. Fluff and shape the bow and then trim the ribbon ends to points. As an alternative, assemble a bow-and-floral arrangement on a small piece of cardboard instead of adhering the items directly to the wreath, which allows for flexibility when designing. When you are satisfied, glue the cardboard to the top can.

7. Hang with a length of jute twine or wire attached to the wreath form.
